Soren Hauge

Soren Hauge has served as a member of the Loan Fund Oversight Committee for WCCN's NICA Fund since 1997. He is an associate professor of economics and the coordinator of Latin American area studies at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin. He conducts research on microfinance institutions in Latin America, evaluating their outreach to the rural poor and their impact and sustainability.

Dr. Hauge's field research has taken him to Chile for two years, and to Costa Rica and Colombia. He is a faculty advisor to the Associated Colleges of the Midwest study programs in San Jose, Costa Rica. He teaches courses in economic development and international economics, among others. Before studying for his Ph.D. in economics at UW-Madison, he worked as a welfare caseworker and volunteer with refugee assistance organizations in Boston, Massachusetts.
