Derrick Gee
Derrick Gee, who serves on the Loan Fund Oversight Committee, spent his professional career in product development, sales, and marketing for PIC, Inc., the world's major supplier of genetics to pork producers. Derrick has a global perspective on business having established new businesses in Romania and the Czech Republic and grown businesses in many other countries. Since he "retired" in 1999, Derrick has dedicated his time to several community projects including his passion of improving the human condition in Nicaragua. As a member of the Spring Green Lions Club and the District Director of International Understanding, Derrick was instrumental in raising the funds and coordinating the construction of an ophthalmological clinic in Rivas, Nicaragua. Derrick has also been a driving force in the Richland Center-Santa Teresa Sister City Project. The project has an ongoing effort to improve the agricultural practices of the inhabitants of the Chacocente Forest Reserve to mitigate their impact on the fragile environment. The project also works with the community to improve education and access to health as well as working with the park rangers to increase protection of a sea turtle nesting beach in the reserve. Derrick joined the NICA Fund Oversight Committee in 2003 and has brought an invaluable combination of business savvy and concern for the poor to the committee.
