Borrower Profile: Clementina Hernandez

Clementina Hernandez is a farmer raising chickens and pigs in Honduras. Women here always have raised livestock for food for their families. With the support of microfinancing, they now are expanding their flocks and herds -- not only to better feed their families but to earn a living.
Clementina’s first loan from WCCN’s Honduran partner, CREDISOL, was for 2,000 lempiras (US $100), which she used to purchase chickens and pigs to raise for market. Her success led to a second loan for 3,000 lempiras (US $150) to purchase additional livestock and increase her income.
“Things have changed a lot because of the loans,” she says. Her children can attend school, and she can buy medicine for her ailing mother, whose health is greatly improving. As her livestock business grows, she would like a third loan to improve her home.
