In 1993, a loan from WCCN to the Association of Agricultural Cooperatives of Jalapa (which is still in business today) enabled 12 co-ops along the Honduran border to grow corn, beans, and coffee. In the picture a young women is picking coffee.

Today WCCN, originally through the NICA Fund and now through the Capital for Communities Fund, is providing a $45,000 loan to the Central Coffee Cooperatives from the North Region (CECOCAFEN).

CECOCAFEN is an association of multi-service cooperatives whose mission is the marketing and sale of quality coffee grown by over 2,000 families from remote, rural communities in northern Nicaragua. CECOCAFEN also promotes sustainable and ecological agricultural practices among its members, provides technical training and cooperatives education and offers equitable opportunities for integrated development in their members’ communities.
