Travel with WCCN to Guatemala May 22-29, 2011 and Ecuador in the Fall of 2011
Join WCCN and SIA as we travel to Guatemala to meet microfinance borrowers working and living in Mayan villages in the Guatemalan highlands. We will learn about the history, dreams and unique struggles of the indigenous Mayan as they work to maintain their language and culture and achieve economic self-sufficiency in the 21st century.
You will have the opportunity to speak with families and small business owners who directly benefit from WCCN’s Capital for Communities Fund. Throughout the tour we also will meet with Guatemalan leaders working to ensure equitable and sustainable development. By structuring the tour to allow dialogue with local people from various social sectors, participants will experience Guatemala from the perspective of the Guatemalan people.
Experienced bilingual staff members who have carefully coordinated such visits over the years will accompany your travel. The seven-day itinerary will include chartered bus travel to several Guatemalan cities and towns including: Antigua, Totonicapán, Sololá and San Lucas Tolimán on the shore of Lake Atitlán where we will tour a coffee plantation. Hotel accommodations and dining will be arranged in advance.
Cost: $1,650 includes lodging, meals, local transportation, guides and interpreter; it does not include airfare. Final registration is due February 28, 2011. Space is limited and registration is on a first come first served basis; minimum number of required participants is eight.
